My love of art started at a very young age. At the age of 5, my family moved across the world to the country of Bangladesh. I basically grew up between two very different worlds. One where my home was located in a small village in Asia, and the other in Bloomington Illinois. I never truly belonged to either of those places. I could never blend in among the people of Bangladesh. And even though my skin color matched more of the population here in America, my inner being didn't blend. We jokingly referred to ourselves as the inside out oreos.
Living between two worlds brought the privilege of flying internationally often. This meant I got to visit and encounter many countries and cultures! Hence you will see that a lot of my art reflects my love of travel. My inspiration for a painting usually is invoked by a story being told by a scene. Even better is when I was taking place in that story; capturing a small memory/moment in time.
Now that I live full-time back in the USA, I've found another way of capturing moments, Plein Air painting. Not only does it keep a memory of a place, but it also brings the chance to meet people I otherwise never would have met. Art is a common ground that anyone from anywhere can stop and appreciate.
